Project Overview

Symmetric IT Services Pvt Ltd successfully designed, supplied, and executed the Highway Traffic Management System (HTMS) network for EFKON, a leading European company specializing in intelligent traffic management solutions. This project aimed to enhance the control and operation of various traffic management systems, ensuring efficient traffic flow and improved safety on major highways in India.

Project Objectives

The primary objectives of the HTMS project included:

  • Centralized Traffic Management: To facilitate the centralized control and operation of multiple traffic management systems from a dedicated Traffic Control Centre.
  • Integration of Advanced Technologies: To implement advanced technologies such as Automation Traffic Counter cum Classifier (ATCC), Closed-circuit Television (CCTV), Emergency Communication System (ECS), Meteorological Stations (METs), Network Management System (NMS), and Variable Message Signs (VMS).
  • Enhanced Traffic Monitoring and Safety: To improve traffic monitoring capabilities and ensure timely communication during emergencies

Project Scope

The scope of the project encompassed the following key components:

  1. Design and Supply of Network Infrastructure:
  • Utilization of Finolex Fibre Optic Cable for high-speed data transmission.
  • Deployment of HP switches to ensure reliable connectivity and network performance.

2.Implementation of Traffic Management Systems:

  • Automation Traffic Counter cum Classifier (ATCC): To monitor and classify vehicle types for traffic analysis.
  • Closed-circuit Television (CCTV): For real-time surveillance and monitoring of traffic conditions.
  • Emergency Communication System (ECS): To facilitate quick communication during emergencies.
  • Meteorological Stations (METs): To gather weather data that can impact traffic conditions.
  • Network Management System (NMS): For monitoring and managing the network infrastructure.
  • Variable Message Signs (VMS): To provide real-time information to drivers

Project Locations

The HTMS network was implemented across several key locations, including:

  • Bandra-Worli Link Road: A crucial link connecting the western suburbs of Mumbai, enhancing traffic flow and management.
  • Hosur Road Highway Toll Management: Located in Bangalore, this project aimed to streamline toll operations and improve traffic management on one of the busiest highways in the region.
  • Nelamangala Road Highway Toll Management: Also within Bangalore city limits, this project focused on optimizing toll management and traffic control.

Implementation Process

The implementation process involved several critical phases:

1.Planning and Design:

  • Conducting a thorough analysis of the existing traffic conditions and requirements.
  • Designing a robust

2. Installation:

  • Laying down the Finolex Fibre Optic Cable to establish a high-speed communication network.
  • Installing HP switches and configuring them for optimal performance.

3. System Integration:

  • Integrating various traffic management systems into the centralized Traffic Control Centre.
  • Ensuring seamless communication between different systems for real-time data sharing.

4. Testing and Commissioning:

  • Conducting rigorous testing of all systems to ensure functionality and reliability.
  • Commissioning the entire HTMS network for operational use.

5. Training and Support:

  • Providing training to the personnel at the Traffic Control Centre on how to operate and manage the new systems.
  • Offering ongoing support and maintenance to ensure the continued success of the project.

Results and Impact

The successful execution of the HTMS network for EFKON has led to significant improvements in traffic management and safety across the implemented locations. Key outcomes include:

  • Improved Traffic Flow: Enhanced monitoring and management capabilities have resulted in smoother traffic flow, reducing congestion during peak hours.
  • Increased Safety: The integration of CCTV and emergency communication systems has improved response times during incidents, enhancing overall road safety.
  • Real-Time Data Access: The centralized Traffic Control Centre allows for real-time access to traffic data, enabling informed decision-making and timely interventions.
  • Enhanced Public Communication: Variable Message Signs provide drivers with crucial information, helping them make better travel decisions.
